Puntland refuses to extend term of the Somali Federal Government officials.

The Puntland regional government says it will take steps to set aside Somalia’s government if it fails to review  its decision of the term extension.

following the decision of the House of the People the Puntland Parliament had consulted with traditional elders, civil society organizations, political parties and academics, and issued resolutions related to the Somali elections said  A statement from the Puntland Presidency .

In a two-page statement, Puntland stated that, giving considerations the needs of Puntland institutions and civil society, considering the need to preserve the unity, stability and progress of the state-building process in Somalia, it has made the following decisions.

The statement said that ,The Puntland State of Somalia does not recognize the illegal move by the 10th House of the People of the Federal Parliament, which has passed its term.

Puntland urged  the leaders of the Federal Government of Somalia and the regional governments in the country to implement the agreement reached on 17 September 2020 in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia.

Puntland as well  called on the Somali people to preserve unity, solidarity, and preserve the principles of Somalia’s federal and democratic state-building process.

Puntland’s statement comes after Somalia’s government whose term has ended on December 2020,  passed a law on 12th april allowing the government to stay in office for two years and this was jointly rejected by opposition and representatives of the international community.
