Somali Disaster Management Agency Sends Relief Supplies to Hudur.

Mogadishu, Somalia – May 19, 2024

The Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) has dispatched an aircraft carrying essential relief supplies to Hudur, the capital of the Bakool region in South West Somalia. This initiative aims to provide much-needed food aid to communities in border areas and villages severely impacted by El Niño-induced floods.

The relief assistance was generously donated by the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and was officially seen off at Aden Adde International Airport by Dr. Abdirahman Wahid, the Assistant Chairman of SoDMA.

“SoDMA is committed to improving the livelihoods of affected populations in Somalia,” Dr. Wahid stated. “The aid sent to Hudur, consisting of food supplies, is crucial for families who have suffered due to the severe weather conditions brought by El Niño.”

The supplies will be distributed to families in the Bakool region, where many have faced significant hardships due to the recent floods. This consignment is part of ongoing efforts by SoDMA to address the humanitarian needs in regions most affected by natural disasters.

The UAE’s contribution underscores the importance of international cooperation in disaster relief and humanitarian assistance. The partnership between SoDMA and the UAE is aimed at ensuring that vulnerable populations receive timely and effective support.

As SoDMA continues its efforts to alleviate the impact of El Niño in Somalia, the agency remains focused on providing immediate relief while also working on long-term solutions to enhance resilience against future natural disasters.
