Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has expanded its operational bases in Galgadud region of Galmudug State as part of efforts to strengthen security.
NISA has recently trained new personnel, while several camps in districts across Galgaduud are reportedly hosting recruits undergoing training.
Upon completing their training, the recruits are expected to be deployed to different NISA stations in the region.
NISA Director-General Mahad Mohamed Salad inspected some of the camps and met with intelligence officers. He was briefed on the condition of the forces and the resources and support they require to carry out their duties.
The expansion is said to be part of broader efforts to strengthen Somalia’s security forces and improve their capacity to take full responsibility for the country’s security.
The move comes as the African Union prepares to transfer greater security responsibilities to the Somali government as part of the ongoing transition toward Somali-led security operations.
