Somalia, India hold talks to boost Media and Cultural ties

Somalia and India have held talks in Nairobi, Kenya, focusing on strengthening cooperation in media, culture and tourism.

Somalia’s Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Abdifatah Qasim Mahmoud, met with India’s High Commissioner to Kenya and Ambassador to Somalia, Adarsh Swaika.

The meeting between the leaders reportedly focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries, particularly in media and cultural development.

The two sides discussed ways to improve collaboration and strengthen institutional capacity.

They also explored staff training and skills development, the transition to digital media systems, and greater cooperation between artistic and cultural groups.

Other discussions focused on enhancing the capacity of media and cultural institutions through available opportunities for cooperation between Somalia and India.

Minister Abdifatah Qasim thanked the Indian government for its continued support and cooperation with Somalia, particularly its efforts to help develop the country’s national media sector.

“We thank the Government of India for its continued support and cooperation with Somalia, particularly its valuable efforts to strengthen and develop our national media sector. We highly appreciate India’s partnership in building the capacity and professional skills of our media personnel.”He said

The minister also highlighted the importance of Indian support in building staff capacity and developing professional skills in media and culture.

The talks come as Somalia seeks to modernize its media and cultural systems while expanding international partnerships aimed at improving professional skills and the use of modern technology.
