In an administrative development, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has officially declared Gubadlee, Darussalam, and Garasbaale as fully-fledged districts within the Banadir region. This announcement increases the total number of districts in the Banadir region to twenty.
Yusuf Hussein Jimale, the Governor of Banadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, expressed his support for the President’s decision. He noted that these areas have met all necessary criteria to become districts and will now receive the same status and services as other districts in Banadir.
“The new districts of Banadir are required to establish essential services such as stations, security, justice, and tax offices,” said Mayor Jimale. He also acknowledged the pivotal role played by Ahmed Macallin Fiqi, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, who significantly contributed to this process during his tenure as the Minister of Interior, Federal Affairs, and Reconciliation.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of administrative order and service delivery, highlighting that the recognition of these districts will facilitate better governance and infrastructure development. He also mentioned the need for continued efforts to ensure these districts are fully integrated into the regional administrative framework.
The Banadir region, now comprising 20 districts, includes:

The President’s decision marks a milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance local governance and service delivery in Mogadishu and its surrounding areas. With the inclusion of Gubadlee, Darussalam, and Garasbaale, the government aims to ensure that these regions receive the necessary support to thrive and contribute to the overall development of the Banadir region.
