Jordan pledges support for rebuilding Somalia’s Armed Forces

Jordan has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the rebuilding and development of Somalia’s armed forces following high-level talks between senior military and defence officials in Amman.

Somalia’s Minister of Defence, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, met with Jordan’s Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Yousef Huneiti, to discuss regional security challenges and ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation in defence and military affairs.

The meeting focused on “expanding collaboration in military training, capacity building, defence cooperation and the exchange of expertise” , with both sides emphasizing the importance of continued partnership to enhance the capabilities of Somalia’s security forces and promote regional stability.

General Huneiti said Somalia and Jordan enjoy strong bilateral relations, noting that military cooperation plays a vital role in strengthening defence capabilities and improving professional military skills through knowledge-sharing and joint initiatives.

The Jordanian military chief also reaffirmed his country’s support for Somalia’s efforts to rebuild its armed forces and strengthen national security institutions.

Minister Fiqi praised Jordan’s continued support for Somalia and commended the leadership of King Abdullah II, as well as the professionalism and advanced capabilities of the Jordanian Armed Forces.

The Somali delegation also received briefings on Jordan’s military development, including its defence capabilities, training programmes, joint military exercises and professional development initiatives.

The meeting reflects growing defence cooperation between Somalia and Jordan as Mogadishu continues to strengthen the capacity of its armed forces in support of ongoing security and counterterrorism efforts.
