Prime Minister Hamza praises North East State’s progress, calls for dialogue with Somaliland Politicians

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has praised the progress made by North East State during its first year, highlighting developments in security, reconstruction and political affairs.

Speaking during his visit to the region, Prime Minister Hamza commended the state leadership and residents for the steps taken since the administration was established. He urged the people and officials of North East State to safeguard the security and political stability achieved over the past year.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed the Federal Government’s support for the administration and encouraged its leadership and communities to continue working together to consolidate peace, stability and development.

In his remarks, Hamza also called on political leaders in Somaliland to return to dialogue and seek peaceful solutions to their grievances. He said dialogue remained the path toward addressing outstanding differences and urged all sides to forgive past grievances and focus on finding a way forward.

The Prime Minister also criticised the Somaliland administration’s engagement with Israel, describing the decision as a misguided approach and urging its leaders to reconsider the relationship.

“Somaliland has embarked on the wrong path. All Somali people, Muslim communities and people of conscience who believe in humanity oppose this,” Prime Minister Hamza said, according to remarks reported by local media.

He argued that the disagreement between Somalia and Somaliland should be resolved through dialogue rather than further political confrontation, stressing the need to focus on reconciliation and a peaceful settlement.

The Prime Minister further rejected the idea that Somali society is fundamentally divided across the country, saying that political disagreements, rather than divisions among ordinary citizens, were contributing to tensions.

His remarks come as the Federal Government continues to advocate for dialogue on the country’s political and territorial disputes, while North East State marks its first year as a federal member state.
