Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said Somalia is open to investment and is ready to welcome investors interested in exploring opportunities in the country’s economy and natural resources.
The President said the Federal Government is prepared to receive investors with open arms as Somalia seeks to attract capital into sectors including maritime resources, oil exploration and other areas of economic activity.
President Hassan Sheikh also expressed appreciation to Türkiye for its role in supporting Somalia’s security improvements, saying Ankara had continued to engage with Somalia at a time when some countries remained hesitant because of security concerns.
He said Türkiye had helped challenge perceptions that Somalia’s waters were inaccessible, oil exploration was impossible and that the country was defined solely by terrorism.
“Türkiye rejected the narrative that Somalia’s seas cannot be accessed, that oil cannot be explored and that terrorists are present,” President Hassan Sheikh said, according to local media reports.
The President said Somalia had made progress in overcoming barriers that previously limited exploration and exploitation of its natural resources. He pointed to the country’s emerging oil and gas sector as well as opportunities in maritime investment and other areas of the economy.
Somalia is currently awaiting the results of ongoing oil exploration activities that began several months ago, while the government continues to promote investment opportunities linked to the country’s coastline, fisheries and wider blue economy.
The President’s remarks come as Somalia seeks to position itself as an emerging investment destination, with the government highlighting improved security, natural resources and strategic access to the Indian Ocean and Gulf of Aden as potential drivers of future economic growth.
