The UK government has Pledged 100 million pounds to take part investment in Somalia’s development initiatives

To bolster development projects in Somalia, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced a £100 million contribution, approximately equivalent to $125 million. The announcement was made during Prime Minister Sunak’s meeting with Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is actively participating in the World Food Security Conference held in London.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud underscored the challenges facing the Somali people, highlighting the government’s efforts to address the aftermath of the 2022 famine cancellation and the recent damage caused by autumn rains, resulting in the unfortunate loss of 50 lives since mid-October. The president also emphasized the global food shortage, emphasizing the critical importance of climate resilience in the face of such challenges.

Expressing gratitude for the UK’s commitment to supporting Somalia, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud lauded this financial injection as a pivotal step towards fostering international cooperation. The £100 million pledge aims to support vital development initiatives in Somalia, contributing to the nation’s ongoing efforts to overcome humanitarian crises and build resilience in the face of environmental challenges.

The World Food Security Conference, a collaborative effort by the UK, the UAE, and Somalia, brought together representatives from more than 20 countries. The conference serves as a platform to facilitate discussions on strengthening collective efforts to eradicate hunger globally, reflecting the shared commitment of nations to address the pressing issue of food security.
