Somalia Welcomes Sudan’s return to IGAD, Praises Djibouti’s diplomatic role.

Somalia has welcomed Sudan’s decision to fully resume its participation in the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), describing the move as a significant step toward strengthening regional cooperation across the Horn of Africa.

In a statement, Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Khartoum’s return to the regional bloc would provide “a major boost to regional cooperation and efforts to strengthen peace, security, and development” among member states.

The Somali government also commended Djibouti for its diplomatic efforts in facilitating Sudan’s reintegration into the organization. Djibouti currently chairs IGAD and has played a central role in advancing dialogue among member countries.

Mogadishu reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Sudanese government and other IGAD member states to advance shared regional priorities, including peacebuilding, stability, and economic cooperation.

Sudan’s decision to rejoin IGAD comes after a two-year absence, a move widely seen as strengthening regional unity and enhancing coordinated responses to common political, security, and development challenges facing the Horn of Africa.
