Somalia: President meet Galmudug top leaders and Elders, discuss second phase of anti-Al-Shabab operations

The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held special meetings with the elders of Galmudug, together with the President of Galmudug State Ahmed Abdi Kariye and his deputy Ali Dahir Eid.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud spoke to the traditional elders on how to participate in the ongoing fight against Al-Shabaab which is being organized in the areas of Galmudug regional government, he also discussed with the elders on the important of unity and how to overcome the division and coming together among them to face the common enemy.

“President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said that the biggest obstacle to the development of Galmudug Regional Government is Al-Shabaab, if the liberation of the areas is completed, it will be easier to implement development projects, the construction of economic infrastructure and provision of basic services” Statement from the president reads.

The meeting which is part of the public mobilization meetings in the fight against Al-Shabaab, which the President of the Republic is conducting in Galmudug, the traditional councils thanked the President for his commitment to complete the liberation of the areas here and ensure a progressive and peaceful Somalia.

The declaration of the second phase of operations marks a significant step forward in the ongoing battle against Al-Shabab. According to President Mohamud, the second phase of offensive operations is expected to be easier than the first phase, as the national army and the organised local fighters has gained valuable experiences.

With the planned kick off of the second phase of operations against Al-Shabab and renewed offensive, the Somali government hopes to finally liberate the country of Al-Shabab’s presence and bring stability and security to its citizens.
