AU and partner States pledge full support for Somalia’s National Security takeover

At a meeting of the leaders of countries that have deployed troops to support Somalia, held in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, participating officials stated clearly and publicly that they will stand in full support the Somali National Armed Forces as they assume responsibility for the country’s security.

During the session, the President of the Federal Government of Somalia highlighted the achievements made by the Somali National Armed Forces and emphasized that the forces must be supported through continued training, provision of necessary equipment, and other forms of assistance required for their operations.

Representatives from the troop-contributing countries also affirmed their support, noting the visible improvements in the Armed Forces’ capacity, operational effectiveness, weaponry, and the vehicles and assets used in their missions.

The African Union is also expected to create opportunities for joint operations against AS in cooperation with the Federal Government of Somalia, once the mandate expires for AUSSOM troops, as described in the statement.
