Somalia President and Prime Minister scheduled to visit Garowe, Baladweyne today.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamse Abdi Barre are scheduled to travel to Garowe, the capital of Puntland, and Beledweyne, the capital of Hiraan region of Hirshabelle Regional Government.

An introductory delegation to the visit of Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to Puntland arrived in Garowe yesterday, led by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somalia, Abshir Omar Hurse and the Deputy Director of the Somali Presidency, Mohamed Amin Sheikh Osman.

While in Garowe, President Hassan is expected to hold various meetings with the top leaders of the Puntland Regional Government, the traditional leaders and other parts of the community, to listen to their needs and grievances.Also the President, is scheduled to have a special meeting with the President of the Puntland Regional Government, Saeed Abdullahi Deni, where they will discuss a number of issues, including strengthening the relationship between the Central Government and the Regional Government, security and other issues dealing with drought in those areas.

It is the first trip by President Hassan to Garowe and Puntland regions since his election on May 15, 2022, but he has already visited the South West and Galmudug regions.

On the other hand, it is expected today that the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, will make his first trip since the appointment of the Prime Minister of the Government to Beledweyne, the capital of Hiran region.

A delegation ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit arrived in Baladweyne yesterday, with the Minister of Defense of the Armed Forces, the Commander of the Armed Forces and some MPs from Baladweyne.

The President of the Hirshabeel Regional Government, Ali Guudlawe, also arrived in Beledweyne, who was on a business trip to Matabaan District and areas under Hiiraan Region.

The purpose of the visit of the Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamse Abdi Barre, to Beledweyne was said to be to observe the situation of the people in the city of Beledweyne and the surrounding areas and to speed up the operations against Al-Shabaab which the government forces are conducting in the areas of Hiran region. The trip to Beledweyne by the Prime Minister of Somalia Hamse Abdi Barre means that his first trip to Beledweyne since his appointment on 25 June 2022.
