The Somali Federal Government has defended Turkey against claims circulating on social media that Turkish aircraft carried out an airstrike on the home of former Custodial Corps Commander General Mahad Abdirahman alias Taliye shub.
Somalia’s Minister of Information, Abdifatah Qasim Mohamud, said that there is an organized campaign against Turkey aimed at spreading false information and damaging relations between the two countries.
“There is an organized campaign against the Turkish government, our brothers who have supported us for a very long time. While many other countries exist, Turkey came to our assistance,” Minister Qasim said.
His remarks came after reports circulated on social media in recent hours alleging that Turkish aircraft had bombed General Mahad Abdirahman’s residence.
The minister rejected the claims, saying Turkey was not involved in the strike and stressing that there was no reason to target the home of a Somali citizen.
Turkey is one of the countries supporting Somalia’s federal forces in the fight against Al-Shabaab, particularly through air operations and military training.
