Somalia condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, calls for immediate halt to hostilities

The Federal Government of Somalia has strongly condemned attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against civilian and economic sites in the southern regions of Saudi Arabia, expressing solidarity with the Saudi government and people.

In a press statement issued by Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on September 8, 2026, the Somali government said the attacks had reportedly injured dozens of civilians, including women and children, according to Saudi authorities.

“The Federal Republic of Somalia condemns in the strongest possible terms the attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against civilian and economic sites in the southern regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which Saudi authorities report have injured dozens of civilians, including women and children,” the ministry said.

Somalia described the deliberate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure as a serious violation of international law and warned that the escalation could have wider consequences for regional security.

The government said the continued attacks pose a threat to the security of both the Red Sea and the Horn of Africa, regions that are closely connected through maritime trade and security.

“As a littoral State, Somalia views with serious concern the continued targeting of commercial vessels and the threat to freedom of navigation,” the statement said.

Mogadishu called for an immediate cessation of all attacks and urged renewed efforts toward a political settlement to the conflict in Yemen, stressing the importance of stability in the wider region.

Somalia also reaffirmed its solidarity with Saudi Arabia, its leadership and its people, while expressing its wishes for the swift and full recovery of those injured in the attacks.

The statement comes amid continuing regional security concerns surrounding Houthi attacks and their impact on maritime navigation and commercial shipping through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden, waterways of particular strategic importance to Somalia and other countries in the Horn of Africa.
