Somalia’s elite Danab commando forces are conducting military operations in central areas along the border between the Lower Shabelle and Bay regions, targeting positions used by Al-Shabaab, according to security sources.
The operations are focused on areas that have long served as bases and staging points for the militant group. Forces involved in the offensive have reportedly destroyed several key locations believed to have been used by Al-Shabaab to maintain its presence and conduct activities in the surrounding communities.
The destruction of the positions is expected to disrupt the group’s operational capabilities and limit its ability to use the area as a base for planning and launching attacks.
The Danab forces are among the Somali National Army’s elite units and have been at the forefront of military operations against Al-Shabaab in several parts of the country.
The latest operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Somali security forces to expand government control, dismantle militant infrastructure and secure communities in areas previously affected by Al-Shabaab activity.
Further details on the operation, including casualties and the extent of territorial changes, were not immediately available.
