Puntland state President Said Abdullahi Deni has reorginzed the regions security in a new security head appointments.
Brigadier General Mumin Abdi Shire was announced as the Puntland police commissioner, replacing former police commander Major General Mohamed Abdi Hashi on Wednesday.
General Mumin was replaced by Mohamud Abdihakin Yusuf.
Brigadier General Mumin has been at fore front in the battle against Alshabab leading the various security operations.
President Said Abdullahi appointed General Muhyadin Ahmed Musa to lead the anti-terrorism effort.
Prior to being appointed as Puntland police chief, General Muhyadin held the same position under Abdiweli Ali Gaas’ administration.
General Muhyadin was fired as Puntland police chief in 2020, just months after Nugal region governor Abdisalan Gujir was killed in a suicide bombing in Garowe in March 2020.
Deni’s security shake up comes at a time when there is stalemate on local council elections which has seen some senior political leaders accuse Deni of scheming to extend his term, an accusation Deni allies denied.
