Flooding disrupts movement across Mogadishu after heavy rains

Heavy rainfall lasting several hours has reportedly disrupted movement and daily activities in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu, affecting major roads, Aden Adde International Airport, schools and workplaces.

Several areas have reportedly been flooded as rainwater accumulated on roads and low-lying locations. Traffic has come to a standstill in some parts of the city, while pedestrians have also faced difficulties moving through areas where water levels are high and open drainage holes pose safety risks.

The downpour left several streets submerged, forcing motorists and pedestrians to navigate waterlogged roads. Public transport services were also affected as floodwaters blocked key routes across the city.

The heavy rains have raised concerns among residents about possible flooding and further disruption if the rainfall continues. Some roads have become difficult or impossible to use because of accumulated water.

The Federal Government of Somalia recently warned the public about heavy rains expected in parts of the country, cautioning that they could lead to flooding, flash floods and other weather-related hazards.

Authorities have urged residents to remain alert and take necessary precautions as heavy rainfall continues.
