Prof: Yahye Sheikh Amir , who addressed the debate on the Somali Petroleum Auction presented by Federal  Government Minister of Minerals & Petroleum Abdirashid Mohamed Ahmed, said the issue appeared to have been kept secret for quite  some time.

Yahye pointed out that there are two ways to enter into such agreements but due to the expiration of the term of the government, an agreement known as the “Somali Petroleum Sharing Agreement” was signed.

According to Prof Yahye Amir, the company did not produce oil but signed contracts with other oil companies where it received more revenue than it had paid in the previous agreement.

“There is an SPA that an agreement is signed by someone from Somalia and then he approves it because he is afraid of being caught later if it is said that he signed it as the government is a temporary government and I believe that the minister signed it for that reason ,” said. Prof. Yahye Aamir.

“These companies are not oil producers and they have oil wells. They are brokers who want to block any deal tomorrow and say, ‘Give me more.’ some kind of piracy, ”Prof Yahye told the media.

The Prime Minister’s Office said immediate action against the deal would be taken by the government, and Roble called it illegal to enter into such an agreement

The deal was first announced by Minister for petroleum and later denied by both Farmajo and Prime minister Roble terming the move as illegal

The Prime minister said The alleged production sharing agreement purportedly signed by the Minister of Petroleum with a foreign entity regarding Somali oil reserves is illegal, unacceptable since it wasn’t done through legal avenues and he will  take all appropriate measures to protect  our national resources

Many reactions to Somalia’s oil deal have come at a time of transition for the country’s 11th parliament.
