Jubaland Administration accuses Federal Government over Dolow Airport closure

Jubaland Administration has stated that it’s the decision of the Federal Government that led to the closure of the Dolow Airport in the Doolow district of the Gedo region, and that decision is why the airport remains closed up to today.

The airport has been closed for more than a year, with the reason given being the ongoing dispute between the Federal Government and the Jubbaland administration.

In a press statement released today by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation of the Jubaland administration, it was claimed that the Federal Government’s decision is connected to the Dolow Airport.

Jubaland also said that only the United Nations flights and aircraft carrying humanitarian aid are allowed to use Dolow Airport.

The administration added that civilian passenger flights are not permitted to operate there, which means people cannot travel easily by air.

Jubbaland’s statement comes at a time when, in April 2026, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre accused the administration of Ahmed Madoobe of rejecting flights that were intended to arrive at Dolow Airport.

In any case, both sides appear to have affected ordinary civilians especially those who rely on air transport to reach nearby areas in order to travel by air.
