Hiran Regional Administration Commits to Resolving Border Conflict with Middle Shabelle.

The border areas between Somalia’s Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions have remained calm over the past two days following peace initiatives led by the Hiran regional administration. The governor of Hiran, Muse Salad Wehliye, alongside Hirshabelle’s Minister of Justice Mahad Beyle and officers from the Somali Armed Forces, has been mediating between the militias of two warring communities.

In a statement issued by the Hiran regional administration, Governor Muse emphasized the critical need for genuine reconciliation to bring lasting peace. “Finding peace is essential for the brothers and sisters who are in conflict. Peace is something that cannot be cut by iron or destroyed. There must be real reconciliation to achieve this,” the statement read.

Governor Muse assured that his administration is committed to addressing the recurring tribal clashes along the Hiran-Middle Shabelle border. He called on the armed forces to uphold security measures and foster unity among the feuding clans.

The statement also pointed to the divisive influence of al-Shabaab, accusing the militant group of exploiting clan rivalries to perpetuate instability in the region. “The government of Hiran region is committed to stopping the bloodshed and uniting Somali brothers to confront the Khawarij group that thrives on sowing discord between clans,” it added.

Despite these efforts, skepticism remains regarding the sustainability of the peace agreements. Previous accords between the waring communities have repeatedly broken down, leading to renewed violence. Local observers have expressed cautious optimism but note that durable solutions will require deeper engagement and trust-building measures.

The Hirshabelle administration has pledged to intensify its peacebuilding initiatives, aiming to transform the fragile ceasefire into lasting harmony between the communities. However, the road to reconciliation remains fraught with challenges as both parties navigate historical grievances and the influence of external actors like al-Shabaab.
