Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and a delegation he is leading have arrived in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galgaduud region, ahead of the inauguration of the newly elected Galmudug leadership.
The president was warmly welcomed by the newly elected Galmudug leader, Liban Ahmed Hassan, upon his arrival in the city.
Hassan Sheikh is attending the inauguration ceremony, which is expected to bring together senior Federal Government officials, leaders of federal member states and other dignitaries from within Somalia and abroad.
Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre and Speaker of the House of the People, Abdirahman Mohamed Nur Jama, also arrived in Dhusamareb this morning to attend the ceremony.
The event is expected to begin shortly, with some opposition leaders also scheduled to attend. The inauguration is seen as an occasion bringing together government officials and opposition figures who hold differing political views.
Meanwhile, security has been significantly tightened across Dhusamareb ahead of the ceremony. Authorities have prohibited armed personnel who are not part of the designated security forces from carrying weapons within the city.
Security measures also include inspections of vehicles moving through the city to monitor the movement of people and vehicles and prevent potential threats.
The restrictions on weapons and vehicle inspections form part of a broader security plan aimed at ensuring the safety of Dhusamareb, particularly the Galmudug administration headquarters, which is hosting the inauguration ceremony.
The event comes as the city remains under heightened security, with the movement of armed forces not assigned to protect the administration’s headquarters restricted.
