Somalia: Heavy Airstrikes Hit Al-Shabaab Bases Near Balcad, Casualties reported

Heavy airstrikes were reportedly carried out late last night by military aircraft on the outskirts of Balcad district in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region. The strikes reportedly targeted locations where Al-Shabaab militants were reportedly stationed.

The airstrikes, which were precise in their execution, occurred between Xawaadley village and Balcad district, an area recently involved in an Al-Shabaab attack against Somali government forces. This attack led to various casualties according to close confidant sources.

Reports suggest that the strikes destroyed several Al-Shabaab bases and other key installations, causing significant losses. While exact figures remain unclear, fatalities and injuries among the militants have been confirmed.

The Federal Government of Somalia has not yet released an official statement regarding the targeted operation or the resulting casualties.

Xawaadley, previously vacated by ATMIS forces, has come under increased pressure from Al-Shabaab in recent days according to reports, with militants launching repeated attacks on government positions. The area remains tense, with reports of opposing military movements near Balcad.
