Deputy Prime Minister highlights Somalia’s Ocean protection efforts at Global Conference

Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama has highlighted the country’s efforts to protect marine resources, strengthen ocean governance, and combat illegal fishing during the 11th Our Ocean Conference in Mombasa, Kenya.

The conference brought together global leaders, policymakers, environmental experts, and stakeholders to advance sustainable ocean management and conservation initiatives worldwide.

Addressing participants, Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama outlined Somalia’s ongoing measures to safeguard its vast maritime resources and improve the management of its coastal and marine environment.

He emphasized the importance of tackling illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing activities, which continue to pose significant challenges to the sustainable use of marine resources in the region.

The Deputy Prime Minister also reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to international cooperation on ocean conservation and sustainable development, noting that protecting marine ecosystems is essential for economic growth, food security, and the livelihoods of coastal communities.

The Our Ocean Conference serves as a global platform for promoting practical solutions and partnerships aimed at ensuring the long-term health and sustainability of the world’s oceans.
