IGAD condemns Israel linked interference and warns against moves undermining Somalia’s unity

The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has issued a strong statement addressing alleged interference by Israel in Somalia’s affairs.

IGAD said it is closely monitoring reports claiming that Somaliland authorities have opened a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem, describing the move as harmful to Somalia’s unity.

In the statement, IGAD reaffirmed its position on Somalia’s sovereignty, calling for respect for international law. IGAD said,

“We are following reports that a Somaliland embassy has been opened in the occupied city of Jerusalem, and we reiterate the need to respect Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.”

IGAD further warned that actions taken against Somalia’s unity could contribute to instability in the region, urging all parties to remain cautious.

The statement comes amid a period when the Federal Government of Somalia recently urged international organizations and regional bodies to oppose alleged interference by Israel in Somali matters.

Various countries and international organizations have expressed support for Somalia’s position, condemned Israel’s move and called for respect for Somalia’s unity.
