The envoy of the President of the Federal Republic in charge of humanitarian aid held various meetings with officials of the Federal Government, State Governments, UN agencies, businessmen & various sectors of society and offered to contribute to the humanitarian situation in Somalia. .
There is a drought in Somalia caused by the rain that did not fall for 4 rainy seasons, locusts that destroyed the grasslands, the restrictions caused by Covid-19, the conflict & the war that Russia took on Ukraine on February 24, 2022.
As the waters evaporated, so did the hopes of local communities made up mainly of farmers and pastoralists – which rely on the river for their livelihoods. Under a searing sun, their crops wilted, and their livestock died. Like many others around the country, they came a step closer to starvation as many were forced to flee thier homes in search of water and pasture for thier animals.
Various organizations of the United Nations have suggested that urgent aid be given to people affected by the drought in the African continent, especially in the three countries that share the border of Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya.
