Somaliland Cabinet approves Animal quarantine law, calls for dialogue on Sool

Somaliland’s Cabinet has unanimously approved legislation regulating animal quarantine facilities, in a move aimed at strengthening veterinary safeguards and supporting the livestock sector.

The new law is expected to improve disease control and veterinary oversight while helping Somaliland’s livestock exports comply with international animal health and safety standards. The government said the measures would also strengthen confidence among international trading partners and improve access to overseas livestock markets.

Livestock remains a key component of Somaliland’s economy, with the sector supporting livelihoods and contributing significantly to trade and exports.

During the Cabinet meeting, ministers also reviewed the security situation and described it as stable. The government further endorsed tighter controls over the registration of official government vehicles as part of efforts to improve oversight and accountability.

The Cabinet also called for dialogue and national unity in addressing concerns in the Sool region, emphasizing the need for peaceful engagement to resolve outstanding issues.

The government said the measures adopted during the meeting reflect its broader efforts to strengthen public institutions, improve economic opportunities and maintain stability.
