Army Celebrates the 62nd Anniversary of its founding in Mogadishu. This year’s commemoration comes as the armed forces have been embroiled in divisions and infighting for the past years due to election delays and outgoing president Farmajo attempt of illegal term extension and struggling to secure the country which is slowly recovering from decades old civil war
The National Army has been in existence since 1960 when it was established to protect and defend the country from external threats and enemies.
Outgoing president who was presiding over the ceremony called on Somalis to embrace “principles of patriotism” to build a viable national army. Speaking on the 62nd anniversary of its creation , Farmaajo endorsed the army to take over responsibility of the security from ATMIS in 3yrs time.
The Somali prime minister Mohamed Hussein Roble has congratulated the army on this day, for its commitment and cooperation for always standing on their feet protecting their country and term the army as national symbol
” I extend congratulations to the lieutenants, officers, non-commissioned officers, members of the Somali National Army and their families on the 62nd anniversary of the establishment of National armed forces. The Armed Forces is the national symbol of courage and dedication,” the PM said in a statement.
