Somalia’s Council of Presidential Candidates refuses to work with AU special envoy.

Somalia’s  Council of Presidential Candidates have expressed their reservations over the appointment of Mr. Babatunde Taiwo, the current  head of political affairs at African Union Mission in Somalia(AMISOM) as the senior advisor to the AU mediation team .They accused him over what they termed as ‘’ partisan political course, open bias ‘’ and having contributed to the ‘’ crisis in which he is now assigned to contribute’’

In a press statement released by the council of presidential candidates this morning, the Council expressed their dissatisfaction over his past ‘’ unprofessional conduct in Somalia’’and wonder whether he can preside such  crucial national assignment .

They further urged the AU to respectfully reconsider his nomination

In a related development ,  Council of presidential candidates have welcomed the move by the African Union (AU) to appoint former president of Ghana John Dramani Mahama to spearhead a mediation efforts in Somalia between Federal Government of Somalia  ,regional members states ,civil society groups as well as the  players  towards a process to achieve a free ,fair and credible elections.

Th council thanked the AU for  ‘’ its continued support to the of Somali people and its ongoing peace building efforts throughout the country’’

The council urged the special envoy to commence immediately the process of achieving the delayed elections.

Somalia election process has been thrown in disarray recently and thrust in the spotlight after President Farmaajo’s controversial two year extension by the lower house jeopardized any efforts to mediate towards elections. The president House would later climb down from his previous stance and ask the lower House to reverse the decision in spite of outcry and opposition from his key rivals and sections of donors.

The development therefore paved way the process of conducting elections.
