Somalia, the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) have officially launched the second phase of the Enhancing Somalia’s Border Management Capacities for Improved Security project in Mogadishu.
The initiative aims to “strengthen Somalia’s border management systems, enhance national security, modernize migration governance, and improve public service infrastructure” , including the rehabilitation of the country’s Passport Issuance Headquarters, according to brief statements .
Speaking at the launch, Immigration and Citizenship Agency (ICA) Director General Hussein Mohamed Idow expressed appreciation to the Swiss government for its continued support in strengthening Somalia’s migration and border management institutions.
Representatives from SEM and IOM reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Somalia’s institutional reforms, modernization of public services, and efforts to build an effective migration management system capable of addressing evolving security and mobility challenges.
The project forms part of broader international efforts to enhance Somalia’s institutional capacity while promoting secure and orderly migration.
