The African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) on Wednesday handed over the Mahas Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Hirran Region to the Somali National Army (SNA), marking the transfer of the sixth military facility as part of the phase three ATMIS troop drawdown.
Situated in the Hirran region of Hirshabelle State, the FOB had been under ATMIS playing a crucial role in the ongoing military operations against Al Shabaab ensuring regional security.
The transfer of the Mahas FOB is part of a broader effort to strengthen Somali security forces and pave the way for a complete transition of security responsibilities from ATMIS to Somali authorities. This process is crucial for the long-term stability and sovereignty of Somalia.
As Phase Three progresses, ATMIS and the Somali government indicated they remain committed to ensuring a smooth and effective transition, emphasizing collaboration and continuous support to enhance the operational capabilities of the Somali National Army.
