Somalia and Nigeria Army Chiefs hold talks on strengthening Military cooperation.

The Commander of the Somali National Army’s Ground Forces, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar (Gen. Khalid), held a bilateral meeting with his Nigerian counterpart, Major General Usman Abdulmumin Yusuf, in Kigali, Rwanda, to discuss enhancing military cooperation between the two countries.

According to an official statement, the discussions centered on sharing military expertise, strengthening joint training programs, and deepening collaboration in combating terrorism, particularly against groups such as Al-Shabaab and Boko Haram.

Both commanders agreed to expand coordination and mutual support in security operations and capacity-building initiatives aimed at professionalizing their respective armed forces.

“The partnership between Somalia and Nigeria is vital in our shared fight against terrorism and in strengthening the operational capabilities of our ground forces,” said Brig. Gen. Sahal Abdullahi Omar.

The meeting is part of a series of engagements by Somalia’s Ground Forces Commander with military officials attending the security and defense conference in Kigali, where regional and continental cooperation against violent extremism is a key focus.
