Somali President sends condolences to Qatar following death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has extended his condolences to Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, following the death of his father, former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani.

In a condolence message issued by Villa Somalia on Sunday, President Hassan Sheikh expressed profound sorrow over the passing of the former Qatari ruler and conveyed Somalia’s sympathy to the Qatari leadership, the royal family and the people of Qatar.

“We received with profound sadness and sorrow the news of the death of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani,” President Hassan Sheikh said in the message, praying for God to grant the late leader mercy and eternal peace.

The Somali leader also wished Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Al Thani family and the Qatari people strength and patience during the period of mourning.

The condolences came after Qatar’s Amiri Diwan announced the death of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani at the age of 74, marking the passing of a leader widely credited with transforming Qatar into a major regional and global actor during his years in power.

Somalia and Qatar maintain close diplomatic relations, with Doha supporting a range of development, humanitarian and state-building initiatives in Somalia. President Hassan Sheikh reaffirmed Somalia’s solidarity with the government and people of Qatar during this time of national mourning.
