Somali Police detain youths for insulting President on TikTok

The Somali Police, specifically from the Garasbaaleey district station, have arrested four young individuals accused of insulting the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. This was reported in an official statement released by the police.

The arrested youths, identified as Omar Issa Salad, Mahad Omar Yirid, Amin Mohamed Hassan, and Abdisalaan Ceenaanshe Ibrahim, allegedly posted videos on TikTok that contained derogatory remarks about the President.

The police highlighted that such actions undermine the dignity and respect of national leaders

“Videos shared on TikTok were seen in which they explicitly insult the President of the Republic, which undermines the dignity and respect of national leaders, while also violates the Constitution and the laws established in the country. The accused are in the custody of the police and will be presented to the competent court in accordance with the law,” the police statement said.

The police statement emphasized that the videos were clearly disrespectful to the President, violating both the constitution and the laws of the country. The accused are currently in police custody and will be presented to the appropriate judicial authorities in accordance with the law.

In light of this incident, the Somali Police have urged the public to refrain from actions that incite disrespect, slander, or violate the integrity of national institutions. They warned that anyone engaging in such criminal acts would face severe legal consequences.

This arrest reflects the ongoing efforts by the Somali government to maintain respect for its leaders and uphold the rule of law. The police’s proactive stance aims to deter similar offenses in the future, reinforcing a message of accountability within the community.
