Puntland State marks 28th anniversary as regional administration faces Political and Security challenges

Puntland is marking the 28th anniversary of its establishment as a federal member state of Somalia, with celebrations taking place in the regional capital, Garowe.

Puntland President Said Abdullahi Deni and other senior officials are attending ceremonies commemorating the anniversary, which marks nearly three decades since the administration was established in 1998.

Over the past 28 years, Puntland has experienced significant political, security and economic developments while playing an important role in Somalia’s federal system.

The anniversary celebrations come as the administration faces a number of political and security challenges within its territory. Tensions and disputes in parts of Puntland have remained a concern, while the regional authorities continue to focus on maintaining stability.

Security has been tightened in Garowe and other major towns ahead of the anniversary events. President Deni recently held a security meeting with senior officials and security commanders to review the situation and discuss measures to strengthen security during the celebrations.

The anniversary provides an opportunity for Puntland’s leadership and residents to reflect on the administration’s achievements and challenges over the past 28 years, while attention remains focused on efforts to promote political stability, security and economic development across the region.
