The President of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud will today inaugurate the 8th session of the Federal Parliament. He is expected to deliver remarks at the joint sitting of both chambers.
In his address, President Hassan Sheikh will update lawmakers on the state of the country, including key matters discussed in recent meetings such as national security, the AUSSOM mission, the elections that have taken place, efforts to combat “AS,” and other upcoming issues.
Under Somalia’s Constitution, the President is responsible for opening parliamentary sessions. This session is widely expected to be the last for the 11th Parliament.
Among the priorities facing the Federal Parliament is the election of the Speaker of the House of the People, following the departure of Adan Madoobe from the post. The agenda also includes other political and related matters.
