Somali Military Court executes two men convicted of murders in Puntland

The Military Court has executed Anas Abdulqadir Ali Mohamud “Salmaan” and Adan Mursal Mohamed Iidoow by firing squad, following accusations of involvement in bombings and murders in the northern part of Gaalkacyo, Puntland.

The two men were sentenced to death after a court hearing where evidence was presented against them, and they were allowed to defend themselves with the assistance of their lawyers. Ultimately, the court upheld the death penalty, and the execution was carried out this morning.

Reports indicate that the victims were accused of killing peace ambassadors who were active in the northern Gaalkacyo area, as stated in the court’s announcement. This reflects the serious nature of the charges against them and the impact of their alleged crimes on local communities.

The Military Court has consistently executed death sentences for individuals convicted of similar offenses, including murders and bombings. This trend highlights the court’s commitment to addressing security concerns in the region.

The court has in recent years intensified its handling of cases involving murder, terrorism, and other serious crimes, with the government maintaining that such measures are intended to strengthen justice and deter criminal activities in the country.
