PSF Forces displaced from Galkayo relocated to Military camp in Galmudug

A group of Puntland Security Force (PSF) personnel who were recently displaced from their base in eastern Galkayo after Puntland security forces took control of the facility have been relocated to the Hananbuure area of Galgaduud region in Galmudug State, according to local sources.

The troops have reportedly been accommodated at a military camp in Hananbuure, where they are expected to remain pending further instructions or a decision from Somalia’s Federal Government.

The relocation follows growing tensions surrounding the status and command of the PSF, a specially trained security unit that has historically operated in Puntland and received support from the United States.

The PSF has increasingly aligned itself with Somalia’s Federal Government amid a prolonged dispute with the Puntland administration led by President Said Abdullahi Deni. The Federal Government has reportedly been responsible for paying the salaries of some of the personnel and providing logistical and military support.

The latest movement follows the takeover of the PSF facility in eastern Galkayo by Puntland forces. Puntland authorities have also reported taking control of PSF facilities in other locations, including Bosaso, following negotiations aimed at preventing armed confrontation.

The Federal Government has not publicly outlined a detailed plan for the future deployment or command structure of the displaced PSF personnel.

Their relocation to Hananbuure comes as the Federal Government continues to expand the Somali National Army and train additional forces in Galmudug as part of efforts to strengthen national security capabilities and gradually assume greater responsibility for security operations across the country.

The development could further highlight the unresolved dispute between Mogadishu and Puntland over the command, deployment and political affiliation of security forces operating in the region.
