Gedo NISA Commander Abdirashid Janan rejoins Jubaland Administration to end Gedo standoff

A senior National Intelligence and Security Agency official in Somalia’s Gedo region, Abdirashid Mohamed Nur alias Abdirashid Janan has reportedly reached an agreement with the Jubaland administration, after a period of tension over control of some districts in Gedo.

According to the terms of the deal, representatives from both sides have agreed on how to end the dispute and normalize relations.

The discussions reportedly also covered the arrangements for the forces associated with Janan and the next steps following the preliminary accord.

Officials from the Jubaland administration said that Janan and senior Jubaland leadership will hold further meetings, though the time and location of those discussions have not been publicly disclosed.

Janan had previously left Jubaland to join the Federal Government. During his time in the federal role, he was reportedly involved in activities against the Jubaland administration in Gedo, before dialogue helped bring the standoff to a close.

So far, no statement has been issued by Somalia’s Federal Government regarding Janan’s return.

It is expected that he will address the media and provide further details about the agreement and his transition back to the Jubaland administration after a period of open confrontation, first through rhetoric and then through control of territory, between the parties.
