Somali Military conducts operations in Lower Shabelle.

Fresh details have emerged regarding operations carried out by the Somali National Army (SNA) in the past hours between the towns of Lambar Konton and Muuri in the Lower Shabelle region.

Military officials confirmed that troops successfully unearthed an improvised explosive device (IED) planted along the main road by al-Shabaab militants. The operation prevented a potential attack on civilians traveling through the busy route.

Commander of the 143rd Battalion of the 14th October Brigade, Lt. Col. Ali Mahdi Abdi Beerdide, said the mine was safely removed and neutralized, sparing the local population from harm.

He further emphasized that the army will continue its security operations against al-Shabaab in Lower Shabelle, working closely with local communities to dismantle militant networks.

In recent weeks, Somali forces, with support from residents, have intensified security operations across several federal member states, including South West, Galmudug, and Hirshabelle, as part of ongoing efforts to weaken al-Shabaab’s presence.
