President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud advocates for dialogue and cooperation amidst Nile River tensions

The President of the federal government of Somalia Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has emphasized that Ethiopia’s dam project will significantly affect the entire Horn of Africa region, particularly the countries along the Nile River, such as Egypt and Sudan.

Mohamud highlighted the importance of this issue, calling for dialogue and sustainable cooperation among all parties involved to reach a mutually agreeable solution.

In an interview with Al-Arabiya television, President Mohamud clarified that the relationship between the federal government of Somalia and Ethiopia will not adversely affect Somalia’s strategic ties with Egypt.

President Mohamud underscored the need to work towards peace and development in the region, stressing the importance of avoiding any potential tensions.

The President also pointed out that Egypt is a strong supporter of Somalia, particularly in areas like military training, logistical support, and security enhancement. This relationship reflects the deep ties between the two nations and Egypt’s commitment to contributing to Somalia’s stabilization efforts.

Hassan Sheikh further dismissed reports suggesting that a conflict could erupt between Ethiopia and Eritrea, describing such claims as baseless speculation. He stated that there are no indications suggesting an imminent war.

The President equally highlighted Somalia’s historical relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, a bond that has lasted for centuries. He noted that both countries are currently engaged in new efforts to strengthen their cooperation, especially in economic development, security, and overall progress.
