President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called for Somalia to move beyond clan-based politics and embrace a modern democratic system centered on political parties and policy platforms.
Addressing an audience in Jowhar, the President stressed the need to institutionalize Somalia’s political process and ensure leaders seek public support through clear manifestos and democratic competition.
His remarks were echoed by Hirshabelle President Ali Guudlaawe, who publicly reaffirmed his administration’s support for the federal government’s one-person, one-vote electoral agenda.
“Mr. President, we stand with you to ensure a one-person, one-vote election in the country,” Guudlaawe said.
The statements come as Somalia continues efforts to transition toward universal suffrage after decades of indirect electoral processes.
