Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), working with local residents, has on Friday uncovered jerrycans containing highly flammable chemicals buried in Jilib Marka area of Lower Shabelle region.
Security officials said the substances were “intended for use in the manufacture of explosives and improvised explosive devices by Al-Shabaab militants” .
The discovery is part of ongoing counterterrorism operations aimed at disrupting militant supply chains and preventing attacks against civilians and security forces.
Authorities praised local community members for their cooperation, describing public support as essential to ongoing efforts to weaken terrorist networks operating across the country.
