Somalia and Kenya have held talks on improving travel arrangements between the two countries amid reports that several Somali officials were recently denied entry into Kenya.
The discussions took place in Addis Ababa between the foreign ministers of Somalia and Kenya. Both sides agreed to expand their consular presence by opening additional consulates in major cities in both countries.
According to a statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ministers reviewed recent developments related to migration and travel, agreeing to strengthen cooperation and coordination on consular affairs and facilitate the movement of citizens between the two neighbouring countries.
“The two ministers discussed the latest developments related to migration and travel, agreeing to strengthen cooperation and coordination on consular affairs and facilitate the movement of citizens between the two countries,” the statement issued by Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
The two ministers also reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations, with a particular focus on issues vital to regional peace, stability, and security.
