Somali Army’s Danab Forces Destroy Al-Shabaab Riverine Logistics in Lower Shabelle

Elite Danab commandos of the Somali National Army carried out a precision operation overnight in the Baqdaad area of the Lower Shabelle region, targeting key logistical assets and hideouts of the militant group Al-Shabaab.

According to a statement issued by Somalia’s Ministry of Defence on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, the special forces destroyed four boats used by Al-Shabaab to navigate the riverine areas of the Shabelle corridor. These boats were reportedly used to transport weapons and supplies, facilitate militant movement, and stage ambushes and attacks across the region.

“These vessels were instrumental in the Khawarij’s cross-river operations, including transporting explosive materials and launching surprise assaults. Their elimination significantly disrupts the group’s mobility,” the Ministry noted.

The operation also targeted and dismantled several makeshift camps and safehouses that Al-Shabaab had used as launchpads for attacks and storage facilities for weapons and explosives.

Military officials emphasized that the raid was part of a broader campaign aimed at cutting off Al-Shabaab’s operational lifelines and reclaiming strategic zones across southern Somalia.

Lower Shabelle has remained one of the group’s long-standing strongholds, particularly in remote riverine zones that offer natural concealment. However, increased joint operations between national and allied forces in recent months have seen intensified pressure on the group’s infrastructure.
