SODMA Delivers Humanitarian Aid to Mesegawa Town in Galgaduud Region

The Somali National Disaster Management Agency (SODMA) has dispatched 10 trucks loaded with humanitarian aid to Mesegawa, a town in the Galgaduud region under the Galmudug Regional Government. The aid delivery was witnessed by officials from SODMA, the Mesegawa City Administration, and the Galmudug State Government, and is intended to support families in need within the recently liberated area.

The town of Mesegawa was previously under the control of Al-Shabaab but has recently been reclaimed by a coalition of Federal forces, the Deravishes of the Galmudug State Government, and local army known as Mawiisley. The liberation of Mesegawa is part of a broader campaign by the Somali government to reclaim territories from Al-Shabaab and restore stability to the region.

SODMA officials emphasized that delivering aid to areas liberated by Federal forces and allied local governments is a key part of their mandate. The agency has stressed that their efforts are in line with the directives of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre, who have prioritized the provision of humanitarian assistance to communities in newly secured areas.

“The people in these liberated towns have endured significant hardships under Al-Shabaab’s control, and it is our responsibility to ensure they receive the support they need as they rebuild their lives,” a SODMA representative stated.

The humanitarian aid delivered to Mesegawa is part of a larger effort by the Somali government to provide relief to populations affected by the ongoing conflict.
