Puntland Regional Government Reports 45 Fatalities and 100 Injuries in Road Accidents Over Six Months

A report from the Road Security Command of the Puntland Regional Government has revealed a troubling rise in road accidents across the region over the past six months. The report, presented by Major Abdifitah Said Suleiman, head of the Road Safety Guard, indicates that 800 accidents have occurred, resulting in 45 deaths and leaving 100 others injured.

In his address, Major Suleiman issued a stern warning to drivers, urging them to exercise greater caution and responsibility on the roads. He emphasized the importance of driving calmly and attentively to protect both themselves and others. “Drivers must be vigilant and take their responsibility seriously. Reckless driving not only endangers their lives but also those of the passengers and pedestrians,” he stated.

Major Suleiman also addressed accusations that the Road Safety Command had failed in its duty to manage traffic effectively. Critics have claimed that the Command has been negligent in enforcing traffic regulations, maintaining traffic lights, and raising public awareness about road safety. However, Major Suleiman firmly denied these allegations, asserting that the Command is fully committed to its responsibilities.

The report highlights several factors contributing to the high number of accidents, including poor driving skills, road damage, excessive speeding, and the absence of traffic lights on major roads. These issues, combined with the growing number of vehicles on Puntland’s roads, have led to a significant increase in traffic-related incidents.

Despite the challenges, Major Suleiman reiterated the Command’s commitment to improving road safety in the region. He called on all stakeholders, including drivers, local authorities, and the public, to work together to address the root causes of these accidents and prevent further loss of life.
