Security Forces and officials depart Garowe ahead of President Deni’s arrival

A top delegation consisting of Puntland Presidential Guard, ministers, and officials from the Puntland Presidency has left Garowe to prepare for the warm reception of President Said Abdullah Deni in Mogadishu.

In a video captured, heavily armed security personnel can be seen alongside officials part of the protocol team for President Deni, who is included in this advance delegation.

Deni has been absent from federal government meetings and opposition members recently but has accepted an invitation from the government to facilitate discussions between the two sides.

This invitation reportedly follows a request from the Somalia Future Council for such talks to be held in Kismayo.

Today, February 1, 2026, a meeting between the federal government and opposition groups is set to commence, with leaders from Puntland and Jubaland expected to arrive in the capital in the coming hours.
