Federal Government intensifies operations against Al-Shabaab in Hirshabelle.

The Federal Government of Somalia has intensified security operations against Al-Shabaab in parts of the Hirshabelle State, particularly in Middle Shabelle region, as efforts continue to prevent the militant group from regrouping in the area.

In recent hours, several locations in Middle Shabelle have witnessed coordinated operations involving airstrikes and ground assaults, carried out by Federal Government security forces with support from international partners providing aerial assistance.

According to military sources, the Somali National Army (SNA) has this week “reinforced its troop presence in Middle Shabelle to counter increased pressure by Al-Shabaab on strategic areas within the region” .

Authorities say the group’s objective is to disrupt coordination between government forces operating in Middle Shabelle and Galgaduud regions, where the Federal Government has concentrated its efforts to keep key supply and movement routes open.

The latest operations form part of the government’s broader campaign aimed at weakening Al-Shabaab’s operational capacity and maintaining territorial control in central Somalia.
