Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has departed on an official working trip to Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, where he is expected to meet his counterpart, William Ruto.
After the President left Aden Adde International Airport, Saadia Yasin Deputy Speaker of the 1st House of the Federal Parliament formally became Acting President of Somalia.
This marks the first time in Somalia’s history that a woman has held the country’s highest office,in an acting capacity.
Saadia Yasin now serves as Acting President because Speaker Aden Mohamed Nur (Madoobe) is away in the South West regional states of the Federal Government.
Saadia Yasin’s position is widely seen as a significant step forward for gender representation in Somali politics, highlighting the increasing role of women in high-level leadership positions across the country.
